My 8 week mindfulness programme usually had a waiting list so call today for more information on how mindfulness can help you to live a happier life.
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a very simple concept, it means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgementally.
It is simply a practical way to notice thoughts, physical sensations, sights, smells and sounds, anything we might not normally notice.
Using Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy you can change the way you think and react to unhelpful thoughts and emotions cused by stress and anxiety etc.
Children are mindful all the time, they notice the world around them using all their senses, but we tend to loose this beneficial way of thinking as we grow into adulthood and get swept along by the stresses and time restrictions of everyday life. We live our life on automatic pilot, bypassing all that is positive.
Mindfulness can simply be noticing what we do not normally notice, because our heads are too busy in the past or future.
Mindfulness can be described as choosing and learning to control our focus of attention. Focusing on the here and now. This leads to greater happiness.
The main focus of Mindfulness is on your breathing, the goal is calm, non-judging awareness, allowing thoughts and feelings to come and go without getting caught up in them. This creates calmness and acceptance. A great aid to increase concentration, memory and a great de-stressor.
Being mindful of emotion helps us to stand back from the emotion, understand it and not to fear it or struggle against it. It also has the added benefit of reducing distress (although the aim is to learn to accept the experience, rather than lesson the distress).
If you are suffering from depression, stress, anxiety, a general feeling of unhappiness or that your thoughts and emotions no longer feel they are under your control, give mindfulness a go. You will be amazed at the positive difference it makes as to how you live your day.
My 8 week mindfulness programme includes a free workbook and CD (T's &C's apply).
